Why it didn't occur to me that moving meant finding a new pediatrician....I'm not sure. You would think after the whole faxing of Maddie's immunization record fiasco, it would have clicked....our beloved Dr. Cooper isn't a mere five minutes down the road. Of course, I wouldn't think of needing a new pediatrician until we actually really needed one. Maddie is sick. She doesn't get sick often, but when she does it really gets her down. After over two weeks of coughing all night and complaining of a sore throat, I decided that it was time to get to the bottom of whatever was going on. I am sure that the whole night of coughing and waking Sam up at 5am this morning had nothing to do with my decision to get the problem "fixed" (I am sure that those words are dripping in so much sarcasm you are walking in puddles of it all the way down south). Anyhoo, Maddie has a sinus infection complete with dark circles under her eyes...the whole fifty yards.
So, it was up to Mommy to find a doctor that could see us today without knowing us. I found this group, through my friend Kim, called All About Children. They have just a couple of pediatricians and two nurse practitioners. They are connected to the Children's Hospital downtown if we ever needed that. We hope and pray that our days of specialists are behind us. However, Sam is still under the watch of a dermatologist (for the funky...and I mean funky looking mole on the back of his head...yes it has a name but I am not about to try and spell that) and ENT (for his tubes). He has to see them every 6 months.
The All About Childern people were really nice. The doctor was great. She even sang the "Bob the Builder" song at the request of Sam. Why Sam expected the doctor to sing...I'm not sure. He has never turned a doctor's visit into an all request session before. However, Dr. Cooper is also a music major and has even sang at NFBC before. I guess Sam just expects all his peds to be able to sing. Or, maybe that was his test for her. He thought, "If this doctor is crazy enough to belt out a song at the whim of my request, then she must be crazy to see me on a regular basis." Needless to say, it was a blessing to find someone that could see Maddie on such short notice. Maddie is now on antibiotics and is happily laying on the floor watching Strawberry Shortcake. Hopefully she will be up and about soon, so that we can find more things to keep us busy.
On a side note: The kids and I are going to be involved in VBS at a nearby church next week. The church is called "Eden Prairie Life Church". I don't think it is a good fit for us as a permanent church home, but we are mooching VBS off of them. Well, not really mooching...I am working. They were stunned, to say the least, when I called and asked how I could help out. Apparently they don't understand our dire need for Christian interaction and they don't know the measure this mom will go to so her daughter will not miss a year of VBS.
